feeling nostalgic after the recent boom of interest in the billboard. here’s a pic of me and my co-worker changin’ the letters. we literally would go up some stairs and climb out a window, crawl around the skylight for the club next door and then remove and attach each letter one by one a few stories above the street. it was glorious.
let me tell you, typos and spelling mistakes were the WORST. those letters are actually pretty damn heavy.
The Last Billboard
A 36-foot-long billboard located at the corner of Highland and Baum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Every month, a different individual is invited to take over the billboard to broadcast personalized messages, which are spelt out using wooden letters that are changed by hand.

So upset I found out about this AFTER moving away from Pittsburgh. Guess I’ll have to venture into the city next time I’m home.
It’s crazy to me that this is suddenly all over the internet. The Waffle Shop used to own this, and I actually have changed that billboard more times than I recall.
Where did this idea come from— that if you raise the minimum wage, there’ll be an economic disaster? That if you give poor people money they’ll just hoard it, that the money just disappears into a black hole and everybody stops hiring and…
